Birt Guitars Neck Profiles
At Birt Guitars we pride ourselves on engineering instruments with flawless playability. Nothing is more important than the perfect neck profile. In that effort, we've worked tirelessly to develop neck profiles that bring out the best in the artist using them. Whether you're a blues guru that likes a meaty neck to dig into or a lead guitarist seeking thin and fast, we have a neck option for you. Our necks are classified by thickness and taper. Our Standard taper from 1st to 12th fret is .078". In our experience, this is, for most, the most natural feeling and comfortable taper. In addition, we have our Modern taper for those that prefer a more even taper which increases by .047" and our Vintage taper inspired by the classic guitars of the 50's and 60's with a taper of .094. The only outlier from this is our Ultra Thin profile with an increase of .063. The goal with this profile is to be thin and fast, but not too thin towards the upper frets. Below are our most popular options. If you have your own perfect profile, we'll gladly make it for you. Visit our Custom Shop to set up a consultation.
Birt Guitars Neck Profiles
Ultra Thin C
The Ultra Thin C is our thinnest profile designed for players that prize fast fretting. The thin profile allows for more dexterity in your fretting hand. The Ultra Thin C has a taper from .781" to .884".
Modern Thin C
The Modern Thin C has a more even taper going from .828" at the nut to .875" at the 12th fret. This is a great mix of comfort and playability and a favorite in our shop.
Modern C
The Modern C reduces the taper of the Standard C to provide a more even feel throughout the neck. The taper goes from .844" to .891.
Vintage Thin
The Vintage Thin is inspired from measurements of incrdedibly iconic guitars from the 50's and 60's. With limited quality control and a significant amount of work being done by hand there was a large amount of variance in those instruments. The Vintage Thin is inspired by the thinner measurements of those instruments and has our Vintage taper of .094". The measurements are .859" at the 1st fret and .953" at the 12th fret.
Thin C
The Thin C profile is a favorite. It has a bit thicker of a profile than the Ultra Thin C, but is plenty thin to allow for easy lead playing. The Slim C has a taper from .813" to .891".
Medium C
The Medium C has a modern profile going from .844" at the nut to .922" at the 12th fret. This is a great mix of comfort and playability and a favorite in our shop.
Thick C
The Thick C is a standard taper from .859" to .938". This provides a thicker overall neck while maintaining the same taper most prefer.
Vintage
The Vintage neck is taken from the thicker measurements of the classic instruments of the 50's and 60's. It has the same Vintage taper as the Vintage Thin but is slightly thicker. The Vintage neck measures .891" at the nut and .985" at the 12th fret.
